Strong Family and Community Partnerships
SVUSD believes student success is strongest when schools and families work together.
To support this partnership, the district:
Hosts an annual District Advisory Meeting with school leaders and parent representatives to review student data and plan engagement activities.
Requires schools to document invitations, agendas, and attendance at family engagement events to ensure consistent outreach.
Works closely with private schools through regular visits and collaboration to support families served through Title I.
Family feedback helps guide communication efforts. District surveys show that 95% of families prefer communication through email and have reliable internet access, so SVUSD is expanding digital communication to keep families informed.
Helping Students Start School Ready
SVUSD supports young learners by coordinating with early childhood programs and helping families prepare for kindergarten.
Transition opportunities include:
Kinder Round-Up events where families visit schools and meet teachers. (but we changed this??)
Summer kindergarten screenings to identify student needs before school begins.
Curriculum Nights to help families understand grade-level expectations.
Meet-the-Teacher events so students can become comfortable with their classroom before the first day of school.
These programs help students begin school confident and prepared.
