Federal Impact Aid Survey

Did you know that within the Sierra Vista Unified School District, there are numerous families with ties to the federal government? Every year, our district must seek Federal Impact Aid funding from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds serve to compensate SVUSD for the absence of local tax revenue due to the tax-exempt status of federal properties in the Sierra Vista area.

To secure these crucial funds, SVUSD annually conducts a federal residence and employment survey, aiming to maintain an up-to-date count of families residing or working on federal property within our district. The results of our Impact Aid survey play a pivotal role in supporting our request for these federal funds. This survey is instrumental in bolstering our district's resources for the betterment of our students.

This is of paramount importance because our school district can potentially receive federal funding for various educational needs, including textbooks, materials, personnel hiring, and other education-related expenses, contingent on the number of federally-connected students enrolled in our schools.

For this reason, the district is kindly urging our families to complete the Federal Impact Survey this year. The survey assists in determining a student's federal connection. It's important to note that being federally-connected extends beyond military families; it encompasses:

  • Active Duty Members of the Uniformed Services who work or live on Federal Property.

  • Active Full-Time Members of a foreign military who work or live on Federal Property.

  • Civilians or Contractors working on Federal Property.

  • Parents or guardians residing in Federally Supported Housing.

SVUSD collects this information through the Federal Impact Aid form. We then consolidate the results and only submit the counts to the federal government. Please rest assured that all student and parent information remains confidential and is only used in case of an audit. We do not disclose any details from the form, only the number of qualifying students.

The 2023 Federal Impact Aid survey is open from October 16th, 2023, to November 3rd, 2023. In most cases, only one form is required per family, unless both parents are active military (U.S. or Foreign), or if both parents work on federal property. The survey form can accommodate up to 10 students in a family. You have three options for submitting the form, so choose the one most convenient for you:

Option 1: A paper copy of the form will be sent home with all K-8 students starting on October 16th. Simply complete the form and return it to the school office or send it back to class with your student. Paper copies for 9-12 grade students will be available for pickup at the Buena High School front office.

Option 2: A PDF can be found here. Just fill out the form, print a copy to sign, and drop it off at your school office.

Option 3: Complete the survey online using our DocuSign link Here

Once again, in most cases, only one form is needed per family, unless both parents are active military (U.S. or Foreign), or if both parents work on federal property.
