HM - Pizza and Fractions- The Huachuca Mountain 1st graders took a field trip to Peter Piper Pizza on Friday the 28th. The group started out learning about nutrition and food choices before having a chance to add toppings to their personal pizza. While the pizzas were cooking the students showed off their knowledge of fractions. In order to win extra play points they had to practice fractions in their groups with the help of giant cardboard pizzas. After enjoying their pizza there was plenty of time for everyone to have fun playing games and collect their prizes. Thank you to the folks at Peter Piper for a great time!

Town and Country Spring Carnival - A fun-filled evening was held on April 26th at Town & Country Elementary. All Roadrunners were greeted with a tote bag to decorate and use to haul home their winnings from all of the great games. The students enjoyed playing games like Bean Bag and Can Toss, Silly Sentences, Spin-A-Prize, and much more. As a final reward, each student got to choose new books to take home. The event concluded with the opportunity for all families to visit the BOGO Book Fair. Thank you to everybody that came out to help and made this a fun night!

6th Graders are getting a tour of JCMS. All 6th grade students in our district took a field trip to JCMS this week to get first hand experience of the middle school. After a warm welcome by the Coyote Band and a short play performed by the theater class, the students were split up into smaller groups. Under the guidance of JCMS student council, the 6th graders toured the campus and got some insider tips from the 8th graders. Questions were answered and 6th graders were able to witness a passing period between classes. This is one of the biggest changes students experience when moving on to middle school, and for some can be a little scary. Being able to watch for themselves can help ease that fear.
On May 4th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, JCMS is hosting a 6th Grade Family Night. The evening gives families a chance to tour the campus together. Thank you to everyone supporting these events!

Bisbee Science Lab visits PDS - On April 25th and 26th the Bisbee Science Lab was onsite at the PDS playground. On colorful tablecloths under the ramadas, five stations were set up. The students could experience hands-on examples in different areas like pollination, biodiversity, protecting and promoting insects, and decomposition. Students were collecting insects from the lawn, digging and looking at dirt through microscopes, learning about life cycles and different insects, and even had the chance to hold some of the insect visitors. One station turned the students into pollinators and let them experience the work through the eyes of a pollinator using special glasses. A wonderful encounter with nature and a great STEAM learning experience! Thank you Bisbee Science Lab!

Huachuca Mountain 5th Grade is visiting Grey Hawk Ranch - All Huachuca Mountain 5th Grade classes are visiting the Grey Hawk Nature Center this month. Under the guidance of Sandy Anderson, the students learned about the appreciation, conservation, and understanding of our local plants and animals. They all enjoyed the hands-on learning approach by being able to hold snakes and getting up close, but not too close, to a Gila monster. A highlight for the students was a quick hike to get their feet wet in the San Pedro River and enjoy their picnic lunch. Sandy understands how to capture her audience and the students are left with stunning stories to tell at home after having a blast with nature.

Village Meadows students create digital art in their Technology Special Class. Mrs. Grillβs Technology Specials class created digital mosaics using Google Drawings. This is a unique way in technology to be creative and design digital art. Google Drawings is part of the Google Docs Editor Suite and allows users to be creative with shapes, arrows, scribble, and text. Fantastic work Wolfpack!

This afternoon at JCMS a student came to the office and informed staff that another student was trying to sell bullets to them. The student will face discipline in line with district policy. Thank you to JCMS staff and SVPD for their quick action and a special thank you to the JCMS student for speaking up. We have amazing students at JCMS who follow our Coyote Code and help keep everyone safe.
