We've kicked off the school year strong with some fantastic events already! Last week, Carmichael Elementary School hosted their first Title I Night—an excellent opportunity to learn about how Title I programs can support each student's academic growth. Plus, it was a wonderful evening where students received free backpacks and lunch bags, thanks to Sierra Evangelical Lutheran Church! 🎁📚
Over at JCMS, students are already diving into their math classes with engaging peer and team-building strategies. 🧮✏️ Middle school families also had the chance to visit the JCMS campus and meet all the teachers—we're so grateful to see how many families took advantage of this opportunity. 🏫👋
This week, we've got even more exciting events lined up:
Tomorrow, Wednesday: Open House at Buena High School from 5 PM to 7 PM. Families can walk through according to their schedule and meet the teachers. 🕔🏫
Tonight: Town and Country PTO is hosting their first fundraiser at Peter Piper Pizza, and tomorrow, the PDS Dust Devil PTO is having theirs too! 🍕🎉 Come out, meet other parents, and support your school's PTO!
Let’s keep the momentum going, SVUSD! 💪✨

Dear Buena Families,
We want to inform you about an incident that took place this morning in the high school gym. Two third-party contractors, who were working on the gym bleachers, were involved in a physical altercation. The police were called and are currently on the scene.
Please be assured that no students or staff members were involved, and there was no threat to our school community. The situation has been resolved, and we are taking immediate steps to address it.
Our administration has begun the process to formally trespass these contractors from our campus, and their company has been notified that they are not allowed to return.
Thank you for your attention and understanding.
Sincerely,
Buena Administration

Dear SVUSD Families,
We wanted to update you about several new initiatives and changes in our transportation department. As we work to improve our services, we are experiencing some growing pains with these new features, and we appreciate your understanding and patience.
Student Tracking:
We are excited to announce a new student tracking system that logs students on and off the bus using their new RFID student IDs. This system will allow you to track your child's bus and receive notifications if there are any issues. Currently, we are in the initial phase of this rollout and will provide updated information as the system becomes fully operational. IDs will be assigned at the school sites in the coming days, so please remind your student of the importance of keeping their ID safe and not losing it.
New Routes:
We have heard your concerns regarding the Palominas-BHS routes. Due to budget constraints and other factors, Palominas could not provide routes for high school students this year. As a solution, SVUSD has agreed to partially fund these routes. We prioritized student transportation to relieve the burden on parents. Please note that we do not receive State funding for these routes.
Routing Software:
We recently implemented new routing software, which inadvertently assigned too many students to certain routes. We are actively working to fix these issues and assure you they will be resolved promptly. Drivers have been instructed not to operate a route if the bus is over capacity. In such cases, an overflow bus will be dispatched to pick up additional students, which may cause delays. We are reviewing and adjusting routes, so your student may have a new route in the future.
Transportation Changes:
To streamline communication, please note that any transportation changes made at your student's school after 12 PM will not be effective until the second business day.
We are committed to providing safe and efficient transportation for all students and thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this transition period. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Best regards,
SVUSD Transportation

Dear Palominas Families,
We hope this letter finds you well and excited for the upcoming school year. We wanted to inform you about some important updates regarding transportation for the 2024-2025 school year.
This year, both Sierra Vista Unified School District (SVUSD) and Palominas School District have encountered challenges with transportation due to bus driver vacancies and the limited availability of those able to fill these positions. As a result, SVUSD buses will be providing transportation for Palominas students to Buena High School, a change from previous years.
To ensure a smooth transition, we will be utilizing the routes that Palominas created last year. Please note that these routes may change based on ridership, but we will provide ample notice of any adjustments. All bus routes can be found on our website: https://www.svusd68.org/page/transportation
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all families for their patience and understanding as we navigate these challenges. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, especially during the first few weeks of school as we work out the details.
Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
SVUSD Transportation
