Today, Buena staff called 911 for a student experiencing a medical emergency related to a known medical issue. EMS responded to Buena, and the student’s parents have been notified. There was no threat or danger to Buena.

Every month the Student Support Office sends a survey to teachers and staff that asks them to nominate students for the monthly Colt of Character. The Colt of Character nominees are students that are demonstrating PBIS leadership qualities in their classrooms and around school. We had a ton of amazing student nominees for the month of August. One student from each class was then chosen as our overall Colt of Character for the month. Congratulations to Mason Perez, Maren LeSueur, Caroline Seamans, and Matthew Conroy for being our Colts of Character for August and congratulations to all of our nominees for being leaders in our school.

Good news, Colt Nation! The **weather delay at Buena High School’s Loveless Field has been cleared**, and **gates are now open** for tonight’s football game!

Fans may now make their way to the gates and enter the stadium.

Due to **lightning in the area**, there is currently a **weather delay for tonight’s football game at Buena High School’s Loveless Field**.

🚨 **Gates will NOT open at the usual 5:30 PM time.** Gate opening will be delayed until the lightning has passed and it is safe to proceed.

For everyone’s safety, please **remain in your vehicle and do not line up at the gates** until we announce that the gates are open.

CTE Colts Welcome Congressman Juan Ciscomani!🐴💙

Buena High School was proud to welcome Congressman Juan Ciscomani and his team for an afternoon highlighting the incredible opportunities available through our Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs!

During his visit, Congressman Ciscomani met directly with students, learned about the programs they are involved in, and heard why they chose their CTE pathways and how those experiences are helping shape their plans for the future.

He had the opportunity to visit students representing:

📢 New Arizona Healthy Schools Act Takes Effect This School Year

Sierra Vista Unified School District is committed to keeping families informed about changes that affect our schools. Beginning this school year, Arizona's Healthy Schools Act (A.R.S. §15-242.01) establishes new statewide requirements for certain foods and beverages shared with students during the school day.

Please note: This is an Arizona state law, not an SVUSD-created rule. All public schools across Arizona are required to comply.

Here's what families need to know:

🥪 Students may still bring their own lunches and snacks from home for their personal consumption.

🚫 Students may not share lunches or snacks that contain any of the prohibited ingredients listed in the new law.

🎉 Birthdays, holidays, and classroom celebrations will continue! If food is brought to share with classmates, it must comply with the Arizona Healthy Schools Act.

🍎 Good news! Our food service partner, SFE, is already in compliance with the new law. All breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and beverages served through SVUSD meet the state's new requirements.

🎈 Elementary & K–8 Families: To make celebrations easy, our Food Service Department will offer Celebration Packs that include a compliant drink and cookies for $2 per student. More information and order forms will be available in your school office soon.

📞 We anticipate phone service will be unavailable for approximately **30 minutes** while this issue is being resolved.
