Absence Reporting

Please report your student absent as it is very important that we keep accurate records. It also allows us to mark your student as excused.

For information regarding SVUSD's COVID-19 mitigation policies, please visit the District's COVID-19 Information page

To report your student absent, there are three methods in which to do so:

The effectiveness of the instructional process depends a great deal upon regular attendance. The goals of Buena High School's attendance rules are to promote and enhance student success. Achievement depends upon the students' active participation in the learning process through being present for scheduled classes.

Parents are required to call the school the same day their student will be absent (absences not cleared within 48 hours will be considered truancies). The truancy policy will be applied to those absences for which parents/guardians cannot account.

Parents will be notified via email or autodialed when a student has an unexcused or unverified absence. It is very important that current contact information is listed within our computer system. You can easily update your contact information in ParentVUE.

After a student's fourth unexcused absence, the Truant Officer/building administrator (or designee) will try to schedule a parent conference to enforce state law A.R.S. 15-802. After the fifth unexcused absence, the Truant Officer/Administrator (or designee) will make a referral to the Juvenile Probation Office based on A.R.S. 15-803. If the student continues to be absent without an excuse, after the referral, they will be referred again to the Juvenile Probation Office. A parent who fails to comply with A.R.S. 15-802 or 15-803 for children under age 16 is guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. A citation will be issued by the Truant Officer/Police Officer to the parent, who will then be required to appear in court.

Please refer to the Student Handbook for all updated policies regarding attendance.
