The Sierra Vista Unified School District Governing Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Terri Romo as Interim Superintendent for the 2025โ2026 school year, effective July 1, 2025.
Mrs. Romo brings more than three decades of dedicated service to SVUSD, having served as a student, teacher, principal, and most recently, Assistant Superintendent. A proud product of SVUSD schools, Mrs. Romo is deeply invested in the success of the district and the community it serves.
โWhile I never envisioned myself pursuing the superintendency, I feel called to offer my leadership during this important transition,โ Romo shared. โSierra Vista is my home. I am a proud product of this district, and now I have the privilege of raising my children in the same community and schools that helped shape me.โ
Throughout her career, Romo has demonstrated a deep commitment to doing what is best for children. Her work has included extensive grant writing, securing millions of dollars in additional funding to support students and staff, and fostering a culture of integrity, transparency, and collaboration.
The Governing Board selected Mrs. Romo to serve as a stabilizing force during the districtโs transition, as the search continues for a permanent superintendent. "Mrs. Romoโs experience, compassionate leadership, and unwavering dedication to SVUSD make her the ideal person to guide our district through the year ahead,โ said Governing Board President Donald Lee. โShe understands our schools, our students, and the unique needs of our community.โ
Terri Romo will succeed Dr. Eric Holmes, who has served as Superintendent since 2020. The Governing Board extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Holmes for his five years of service, leadership, and commitment to students, staff, and families.
As the district prepares for a year of significant changeโincluding the launch of the middle school academy concept and the closure of two school campuses in the 26-27 school yearโMrs. Romo stands ready to lead with empathy and decisiveness.
โSVUSD is my home,โ Romo stated. โI understand the pride each school holds and the deep impact this next phase will have on our community. I am honored to serve as a bridge during this transition, and I remain committed to strong, compassionate leadership.โ
Mrs. Romo holds a Bachelorโs degree from the University of Arizona and a Masterโs in Education from Northern Arizona University. She is certified in teaching, administration, and the superintendency.
Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Romo as Interim Superintendent and in thanking Dr. Holmes for his dedicated service to our district.

๐พโจ Future Coyotes in the House! โจ๐พ
Last week, JCMS was thrilled to welcome all SVUSD 6th graders to campus for an exciting preview of middle school life! ๐
Our visiting students were greeted with a warm welcome from the JCMS Band and Student Council, followed by an introduction from Assistant Principal Pizutto and Principal Wright. They got a sneak peek at all the fun, learning opportunities, sports, and activities that await them next year! ๐ถ๐๐
Student Council led small group tours across campus, giving 6th graders a chance to ask questions, learn the layout, and hear straight from current students about what to expect. It was a great day for peer-to-peer connectionโbecause sometimes itโs easier to ask someone who's been there! ๐
Weโre excited to have them join the pack soonโbecause thereโs a lot of fun and learning ahead at JCMS! ๐๐บ

๐ Staff Highlight for April: Mrs. Gracious Davenport ๐ Meet Mrs. Davenport, our incredible 7th & 8th grade science teacher at JCMS! This is her first year as a Coyote and her eighth year in education, but sheโs already made a lasting impact. ๐ Gracious Grace Davenport lives up to her nameโsheโs passionate, warm-hearted, and full of laughter. Her belief in the potential of every student drives her mission to build a safe, supportive, and inspiring classroom. ๐ฌโจ Originally from Florida, Mrs. Davenport moved to Sierra Vista with her husband, mom, and kids after her brother was stationed here with the Border Patrol. Her husbandโwho she met working at a middle schoolโis now one of our amazing custodians! Together, theyโre raising three little ones (ages 6, 5, and 1) and loving life in the SV community. ๐ก๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Davenport worked in daycare and was active in church youth programs. One special moment with a teen in her youth group encouraged her to pursue middle school educationโand weโre so glad she did! From stepping in as support for a sub while still waiting for her AZ certification to creating fun traditions like Student of the Week (complete with favorite snacks!), sheโs all heart. ๐ซ She says, โPeople make people, not money,โ and we couldnโt agree more. Welcome to the Coyote family, Mrs. Davenportโyouโre making a difference every day! ๐พ๐ #JCMSCoyotes #StaffHighlight #ThankATeacher #ScienceMatters #CoyotePride #StaffHighlight

๐ April Teacher Feature โ Mr. Austin Meckler! ๐

Mr. Meckler loves helping students explore life skills through hands-on projectsโlike his popular budgeting simulation, where students choose a city to live in, find housing and transportation, write checks, and see what it really takes to manage a budget. The surprise on their faces? Priceless. ๐ธ

๐ Meet Mrs. Fraiser โ Village Meadows Teacher of the Year and SVUSD Teacher of the Year! ๐
Mrs. Danielle Fraiser is a passionate third-grade teacher at Village Meadows and has been an integral part of Village Meadows Elementary School since 2006. Thanks to the generous support of the SV Education Foundation, she has also been named the Sierra Vista Unified School District Teacher of the Year!
This outstanding educator truly brings learning to life. During a unit on the history of the Titanic, students first explored informational textsโthen stepped into a transformed classroom where a scaled model of the Titanic stretched across half the room!
For Mrs. Fraiser, learning is non-negotiable. She holds herself to the same high expectations she sets for her students, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to growth. When she says, "ALL students will learn," she means itโunderstanding that while the path to success is rarely linear, it's always worth the journey.
Known for wearing her heart on her sleeve, Mrs. Fraiser advocates fiercely for her students' needs. In her own words: "For real, letโs go! We have work to do!"
Recognizing Mrs. Fraiser with this award isn't just about celebrating her as an outstanding educator and devoted motherโitโs about honoring the deep, lasting impact sheโs made on our Village Meadows Wolf Pack community. ๐บโค๏ธ
Congratulations, Mrs. Fraiser! ๐

๐ April Staff Highlight โ Meet Ms. Sophia Macias! ๐
Weโre thrilled to celebrate Ms. Macias, our amazing 7th grade English and Honors English teacher at JCMS!
A proud Benson native, Ms. Macias joined us in January after graduating from NAU in Decemberโand sheโs already making waves! Originally studying agricultural science, she discovered her true passion for English at NAU and hasnโt looked back since.
In her classroom, Ms. Macias brings literature to life with interactive notebooks, creative lessons, and meaningful conversations. Her students recently read The Giver by Lois Lowry and loved connecting with the themes of identity, choice, and community.
As a first-year teacher, sheโs embracing every challenge with heart, grace, and determinationโbuilding her classroom culture, exploring what works best for her students, and learning right alongside them.
When sheโs not teaching, sheโs coaching soccer (a great passion sheโs had since she was littlel!), working on her Masterโs in Education, and spending time with her big familyโsheโs number 8 of 12 siblings!
Ms. Macias says her students make her feel like both a grown-up and a kid at the same timeโand we think thatโs the magic of a great teacher. We are so lucky to have her as part of the JCMS family! ๐๐โฝ
