Village Meadows Elementary School

Village Meadows fifth grade teacher Mrs. Carbrera and Instructional Coach Mrs. Rose-Holston received the Inspiration Boost awarded by the Education Foundation of Sierra Vista. Thanks to the Boost Mrs. Carbrera is holding a fairy tale mock trial in her classroom. The mock trial project that will target reading, writing and social studies skills to determine if Snow White is guilty of a crime. Mrs. Rose-Holsten has purchased hands-on materials for math centers that teachers can check out. These center activities include large floor puzzles of multiplication, “Math Stacks” kits where kids draw cards and have to determine which stack the card belongs to, and kits in which students have “cases” they have to investigate to find the right answers. All the center activities are to engage students in fun and creative ways. Congratulations to both Village Meadows teachers and thank you to the Education Foundation of Sierra Vista for supporting our teachers!

All SVUSD schools and offices will be closed for fall break from October 9th through 13th. We are wishing all SVUSD families a safe and joyful fall break.

The 6th grade Wolfpack was at its best again the last couple of weeks. They built their own sundials and watched it during the day for accuracy. For art enrichment, the students used oil pastels and watercolors. With the help of these mediums they created wonderful balloon dogs. The Wolfpack is loving all of the hands-on activities this year!

This Friday, October 6th is a half day at all SVUSD schools. Please note that all students will be released by the half day schedule. Buena High School at 10:30 am, all elementary schools at 11:15 am, and Joyce Clark Middle School at 12:30 pm. We are wishing all students and families a wonderful fall break October 9th through 13th!

Today is National Custodian Appreciation Day and SVUSD is giving a big shout out to all our custodians. Thank you for keeping our schools and offices clean, safe and healthy. We appreciate all their hard work, our schools would not be what they are without their help!

Last week, students at Village Meadows 6th grade achieved a milepost in their academic quarter. Those who met their reading goals and were completely caught up on assignments were given the opportunity to participate in a unique and inspiring art enrichment project they called "Winston and Starry Night." Way to go wolfpack!

Good Morning Village Meadows Families, This morning during drop off, Village Meadows staff had to call 911 for a student experiencing a medical emergency. EMS and police are at Village Meadows and the student’s parents were with the student at the time. There was no threat or danger to Village Meadows. Village Meadows 6th grade had a visit from UofA’s Mrs. Kosminder, the outreach professional of the Water Wise Youth program. The students have been learning about the water cycle in science class and the learning continued with Mrs. Kosminder’s presentations about water and other elements in the atmosphere. To underline the understanding with fun the students transformed themself into greenhouse gasses and helped protect the earth (a beachball) in different time scenarios. Thank you Water Wise for this wonderful lesson!

All district and school offices will be closed on Monday, September 4th in honor of Labor Day. Please have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

On Wednesday the Village Meadows Wolfpack had their first assembly of the school year. Parents, guardians, staff and students celebrated achievements together by honoring Students of the Month for outstanding citizenship, PBIS SuperStars for collecting the most PBIS points, and EL achievements. As a special presentation students received a plaque in 4th, 5th and 6th grade for their outstanding efforts on the AASA (Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment) test in April. Go Wolfpack!

The SVUSD elementary band teachers are inviting all interested elementary parents, guardians and students to visit our Band Rental Night tonight from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Rothery Educational Center Atria. Vendor representatives from three companies will be in attendance to have students try out instruments and offer rental information. Our band teachers Mr. Gallant and Mrs. Sheridan are on site to answer any questions. Last week Village Meadows 6th Graders in Mrs. Kruse's class learned about solar energy and how solar heat transfers. The students had fun building their own solar ovens and then proving the concept by making smores. Wolfpack hands on science, way to go!

Dear Village Meadows Families, This morning, an employee who had already tendered their resignation, arrived at our campus. The school was put on Shelter in Place and students were escorted to classrooms as they arrived at school. Police were notified and responded immediately. The individual involved was removed from the campus and trespassing charges were filed. The individual never made any threats to staff or students. We want to thank our VM staff for their efforts to keep our students safe and secure. We would also like to thank SVPD for their quick response.
