🌟 Teacher Feature: Mrs. Jurik – A Kindergarten Legend! 🌟
For 18 years, Mrs. Jurik has been a guiding light in the kindergarten classrooms of Village Meadows—helping little learners take their first big leap into education! 🏫✨
To her, kindergarten is a world of discovery, and she loves watching her students grow from playful preschoolers into confident first graders. Her classroom, affectionately called the Puppy Pack, is a warm and nurturing space where every child feels valued and supported—a perfect fit within the Wolf Pack family. 🐾💙
Mrs. Jurik embraces hands-on learning and small-group centers, always looking for new ways to spark curiosity and excitement in her students. She credits much of her success to her incredible paraprofessional, Mrs. Urbina, who works closely alongside her. 📝🎨📚
Outside the classroom, she’s a devoted grandmother, spending time at the Reid Park Zoo and Children’s Museum with her granddaughter. She enjoys knitting, reading, traveling, and family time—and this year, she’s preparing for an exciting new adventure: retirement! 🎉✈️
Principal Mrs. Wambach describes her perfectly:
"Mrs. Jurik is more than a teacher—she’s an icon, a leader, and a transformative force in the lives of young minds. She has become an integral part of Village Meadows, leaving a lasting impact on every student lucky enough to be in her 'Puppy Pack!'"
Though she’ll be stepping away from the classroom, her legacy will live on in the hearts of the many students, families, and colleagues she has touched. Thank you, Mrs. Jurik, for your years of dedication, love, and inspiration! 💙🐺

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Shauna Young, Village Meadows PE Teacher! 🌟
We are so lucky to have incredible educators at Village Meadows, and today we’re shining the spotlight on Mrs. Young, our amazing Physical Education teacher! 💙🐺
Mrs. Young is in her sixth year of teaching but her first year as a PE teacher—a role she has absolutely fallen in love with! Previously, she taught third, and fifth grade before taking a year off to be with her newborn baby daughter. Now, in PE, she gets to see every student at every grade level, watching them grow and helping them develop skills in fun and exciting ways!
Her PE lessons are far more than just exercise—she brings her classroom experience into the gym by integrating math and problem-solving into her activities! 🏃♂️🎲 For example:
Younger students run between tables, finding matching cards to practice recognition skills.
Older students roll dice and use addition or multiplication to determine their reps in an exercise.
Scooter stations incorporate puzzles to keep kids thinking while they move!
Outside of school, Mrs. Young is a busy mom to a 17-month-old and a blended family of kids aged 10, 11, 13, and 15. She loves hiking, movies, and spending time with her husband and family. A 2004 Buena graduate, Mrs. Young pursued her passion for education by earning her teaching degree and completing her student teaching at Bella Vista—the very same school she attended as an elementary student. She then achieved an incredible milestone, earning her master’s degree in just 10 months while navigating her first year of teaching at Village Meadows! 🎓✨
Village Meadows students are so lucky to have 50 minutes of PE twice a week with such a dedicated and passionate teacher. She not only helps them grow physically but also mentally, making PE a place where learning and movement come together!
Thank you, Mrs. Young, for all you do! 💙🏆 Let’s give her a big Wolfpack cheer in the comments! 🐺👏 #VillageMeadowsPride #PEwithMrsYoung #WolfpackStrong

📚 Staff Highlight: Ms. Borquez – Elementary Literacy Interventionist 📚
Meet Ms. Borquez, an incredible Elementary Literacy Interventionist at Village Meadows since April 2024! She dedicates her days to supporting both third-grade classrooms, providing small-group lessons designed to strengthen essential reading skills. Right now, she’s helping students prepare for the state test and monitoring their progress to ensure every child stays on track.
Ms. Borquez has a deep passion for education and watching her students grow. She loves seeing their excitement as they overcome challenges and celebrate successes. She truly values being part of the third-grade team and enjoys collaborating with her second-grade counterpart. Mrs. Gorder, a third-grade teacher, describes her as “fantastic—I don’t have to tell her what to do; she’s so independent!”
Outside of school, Ms. Borquez is a proud mother of four and enjoys spending time with her family. Married to a Sierra Vista native, she came here through the military with her parents and later graduated from Buena. She holds an associate degree in Elementary Education and loves camping, traveling—especially to the beach where she likes to paddleboard — and visiting National Parks with her family.
When choosing Village Meadows, Ms. Borquez was drawn to its strong leadership, clear expectations, and uplifting staff under Mrs. Wambach. She thrives in an environment where she can support students, collaborate with teachers, and make a meaningful impact.
So, what exactly does a Literacy Interventionist do? They work with K-3 students in small-group intensive instruction, helping them meet grade-level literacy standards. In SVUSD, these groups are led by highly trained paraprofessionals at all elementary schools, ensuring every child gets the support they need to succeed!
Thank you, Ms. Borquez, for your dedication, passion, and hard work in making a difference at Village Meadows! 💙🐺 #WolfPackPride #LiteracyMatters #ThankYouMsBorquez #EmpoweringYou #SVUSDProudARatedDistrict

Teacher Feature January: Mrs. Haley Lewis
This month, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on an inspiring educator at Pueblo Del Sol, Mrs. Haley Lewis, our dedicated 4th-grade teacher.
Originally from Georgia, Mrs. Lewis’s journey brought her to Sierra Vista through the military. With over three decades of teaching experience—including homeschooling, private school, and eight years in Tombstone—she has found her niche at PDS, where she’s made an incredible impact in the 4th grade.
Mrs. Lewis is a proud wife and mother. Her 22-year-old son is in college in Utah, a state she loves visiting for its beauty and family time. Her experiences enrich her teaching, making her an empathetic mentor. She emphasizes creating a safe and supportive learning environment, boosting students' confidence, and guiding them through the transition to 4th grade—a pivotal time in their academic journey.
As the grade-level team leader, Mrs. Lewis is a mentor and an inspiration to her colleagues. She collaborates on lesson planning and provides guidance that uplifts her team. Dr. Martinez describes her as “a site leader who demonstrates her heart and passion for student success, setting high standards that her students consistently exceed.”
Mrs. Lewis’s classroom is a hub of creativity and connection. Students enjoy earning PBIS points to spend at the Dust Devil Depot, bringing “fuzzy friends” to class, and engaging in innovative projects like the American Hero Pumpkin Biography. She’s currently planning a spring career day to inspire students’ aspirations.
Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, boosting morale and fostering collaboration. With life experiences from living in Korea and traveling, she brings a rich perspective to her teaching.
Pueblo Del Sol and SVUSD are fortunate to have Mrs. Lewis. Her unwavering dedication, creativity, and compassion make a lasting impact on her students, colleagues, and the entire community. Thank you, Mrs. Lewis, for making PDS a better place for all!💛 #PDSProud #TeacherFeature #SVUSDProud #InspiredLearning #EmpoweringYou #SVUSDProudARatedDistrict
