Last Thursday Carmichael Elementary had their annual βWater Fun Dayβ. First, all grades visited the Cove for a cool splash in the waves. Coming back to the school the students gathered at Len Roberts Park to enjoy their lunch and play all throughout the park. The friendly folks from SFE set up a BBQ grill and made hotdogs. Everyone ended the day with a tasty frozen treat. Thank you all staff and volunteers for making this a fun day!

JCMS 6th Grade Family Night. Last night JCMS opened its doors for families to stroll the campus, familiarize themselves with locations and ask questions. The Coyote Band welcomed the families outside on their way to the library along with PTSO Volunteers. After a short introduction by Principal Wright the visitors got to explore on their own, and if there were any questions the student council was around to answer them. Thank you team Coyote for welcoming everyone!

6th Graders are getting a tour of JCMS. All 6th grade students in our district took a field trip to JCMS this week to get first hand experience of the middle school. After a warm welcome by the Coyote Band and a short play performed by the theater class, the students were split up into smaller groups. Under the guidance of JCMS student council, the 6th graders toured the campus and got some insider tips from the 8th graders. Questions were answered and 6th graders were able to witness a passing period between classes. This is one of the biggest changes students experience when moving on to middle school, and for some can be a little scary. Being able to watch for themselves can help ease that fear.
On May 4th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, JCMS is hosting a 6th Grade Family Night. The evening gives families a chance to tour the campus together. Thank you to everyone supporting these events!

All schools will be closed on Friday, April 21st and Monday, April 24th for a Spring Holiday. We will see everyone back in the classroom on Tuesday the 25th. Have a safe weekend.

There is currently a shelter in place at Carmichael while a medical helicopter lands on campus for a student who fell and was injured during recess. Once the helicopter has left and EMS are complete the Shelter in Place will be lifted.

In October, 2022 we began our Carmichael Garden Project. We spent several weeks preparing the area. The first step was to pull out hundreds of old roots and weeds from the garden plots. Next we added manure and garden soil. Students were asked to raise their hands if they liked cold weather more than hot weather, then we learned that flowers also have their favorite temperature. We learned that Snap dragons and Pansyβs both grow well in the winter in Arizona. We planted our first flower on October 25th! Students have been watering the flower garden and watching the plants grow and flowers bloom. We now have a beautiful flower bed.
Our next project was to discover what vegetables like cold weather better than warm. After preparing the soil we planted Spinach, Red lettuce, Broccoli and Cauliflower. Students in 4th grade enjoyed tasting the spinach and I even heard things like, βWow β this is actually good!β βI canβt believe how sweet this tastes!β And even, βMay I have more lettuce and spinach?!β
As of Spring break our Broccoli and Cauliflower are growing well! We can see the heads of each and will continue watering and weeding the beds. Now that spring has finally arrived we will be talking about the vegetables that like warm weather better than cold and getting those seeds and plants in the ground!
We are so thankful for the Inspiration Grant we were given by the Education Foundation of Sierra Vista. Because of this grant we were able to purchase Garden Gloves, watering cans, plants, garden soil and many other things to get our garden going.
