Last week was an exciting and fun-filled week for the Bolts at Huachuca Mountain. On Monday 6th grade went on their field trip to a relaxing visit at the Cove and on Tuesday Mrs. Fernald's class visited Grey Hawk Ranch. Thursday was the busiest day of the week with 1st grade visiting Texas Roadhouse, 3rd grade going to Bisbee to explore the Copper Queen Mine, and Mrs. Augerβs class visiting Grey Hawk Ranch. On Friday everyone had a chance to check out the lost and found items on the field to take home their belongings. Mrs. Vinchβs class worked this week on creating a taco truck using their math skills to determine the best perimeter and surface area of a taco and ended it with a tasty taco lunch. Art class announced artists of the month winners and third grade created Motherβs Day paintings. Not to forget Teacher Appreciation Week. A big thank you to everyone celebrating our teachers and to all volunteers that made this week wonderful!

HM - Pizza and Fractions- The Huachuca Mountain 1st graders took a field trip to Peter Piper Pizza on Friday the 28th. The group started out learning about nutrition and food choices before having a chance to add toppings to their personal pizza. While the pizzas were cooking the students showed off their knowledge of fractions. In order to win extra play points they had to practice fractions in their groups with the help of giant cardboard pizzas. After enjoying their pizza there was plenty of time for everyone to have fun playing games and collect their prizes. Thank you to the folks at Peter Piper for a great time!

JCMS 6th Grade Family Night. Last night JCMS opened its doors for families to stroll the campus, familiarize themselves with locations and ask questions. The Coyote Band welcomed the families outside on their way to the library along with PTSO Volunteers. After a short introduction by Principal Wright the visitors got to explore on their own, and if there were any questions the student council was around to answer them. Thank you team Coyote for welcoming everyone!

HM - May the 4th be with you π

6th Graders are getting a tour of JCMS. All 6th grade students in our district took a field trip to JCMS this week to get first hand experience of the middle school. After a warm welcome by the Coyote Band and a short play performed by the theater class, the students were split up into smaller groups. Under the guidance of JCMS student council, the 6th graders toured the campus and got some insider tips from the 8th graders. Questions were answered and 6th graders were able to witness a passing period between classes. This is one of the biggest changes students experience when moving on to middle school, and for some can be a little scary. Being able to watch for themselves can help ease that fear.
On May 4th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, JCMS is hosting a 6th Grade Family Night. The evening gives families a chance to tour the campus together. Thank you to everyone supporting these events!

Huachuca Mountain 5th Grade is visiting Grey Hawk Ranch - All Huachuca Mountain 5th Grade classes are visiting the Grey Hawk Nature Center this month. Under the guidance of Sandy Anderson, the students learned about the appreciation, conservation, and understanding of our local plants and animals. They all enjoyed the hands-on learning approach by being able to hold snakes and getting up close, but not too close, to a Gila monster. A highlight for the students was a quick hike to get their feet wet in the San Pedro River and enjoy their picnic lunch. Sandy understands how to capture her audience and the students are left with stunning stories to tell at home after having a blast with nature.

βBroadwayβ at HM - The Huachuca Mountain Music Club presented their βBroadwayβ performance on April 20th to all students and staff, and an evening performance on April 25th.
