π Teacher Feature March: Ms. Leslie Cooley! π
Meet Ms. Leslie Cooley, one of our amazing 3rd grade teachers at Town & Country! Though this is her first year teaching 3rd grade, she brings 20+ years of experience in education, previously serving as a Title I & literacy interventionist and a Special Education para for 10 years.
π A Unique Teaching Approach!
Ms. Cooley and her colleague, Ms. Thuma, split subjects to enhance learningβMs. Cooley teaches math & science, while Ms. Thuma covers ELA, writing, and social studies.
π’ Multiplication Masters!
Her students are hard at work mastering multiplication tables, tracking their progress each week. Those who complete all 12 tables will celebrate with an ice cream party at the end of the year! π¦
π§ Daily Math Challenges & STEM Fun!
She keeps learning exciting with daily math challenges, where students solve word problems for PBIS points or small prizes. STEM Wednesdays bring hands-on activities like building the longest paper chain with only two sheets of paper, a ruler, and scissors!
πΆ Outside the Classroom
A Yuma native, Ms. Cooley loves traveling (Maine is a favorite spot! ππ―) and spending time with her mini schnauzers, Muffin & Milo. She even found a donut shop in Maine that makes potato donuts! π©
π¬ Principal Elson shares:
"Ms. Cooley exemplifies dedication, collaboration, and a passion for education. Her first-year achievements are extraordinary, and sheβs a tremendous asset to our school community."
We are so lucky to have Ms. Cooley at Town & Country! ππ #TeacherFeature #RoadrunnerPride #WeLoveOurTeachers #EmpoweringYou #SVUSDProudARatedDistrict

π Last Week Was a Blast at Town & Country! π
We had an amazing St. Patrickβs Day-themed Spirit Week, filled with creativity, learning, and fun! Our students took on an exciting STEAM challenge:
π The Problem: A mischievous leprechaun kept stealing all the gold!
π― The Challenge: Design and build a clever trap to catch the sneaky leprechaun!
Through hands-on problem-solving, students explored science, technology, engineering, arts, and math to create the ultimate leprechaun-catching contraption!
We also had Lucky Sock Day, Lucky Hat Day, and Rainbow Day, played a PBIS Kahoot game, and even our staff got in on the fun! ππβ¨ #TownAndCountry #SpiritWeek #STEAM #EmpoweringYou #SVUSDProudARatedDistrict

π Town & Country Staff Highlight: Ms. Kali Jones! π
At Town & Country, we are incredibly proud to have dedicated staff who make a difference in our studentsβ lives every day. This month, we are excited to highlight Ms. Kali Jones, our amazing technology paraprofessional, who is now embarking on the journey of becoming a teacher!
Ms. Jones has been part of the T&C family for four years, starting as a resource para before taking over the technology position. She works with students from kindergarten through sixth grade, teaching them about digital citizenship, internet safety, password protection, and cyberbullying awareness. She knows how important it is to prepare students for the digital world, ensuring they can safely and responsibly use technology in their daily lives.
A 2017 Buena graduate, Ms. Jones grew up with technology, making it second nature to her. She meets with students twice a week for 50 minutes, helping them develop essential skills. She also steps in to support classrooms in math, reading, and writing, always eager to help students grow in every subject. In addition, she plays a key role in running the T&C PBIS store, where students practice logging into accounts, shopping online, and participating in interactive learning activities like Kahoot.
"Ms. Jones' ability to integrate innovative tools and resources into her lessons ensures that students are not only learning essential tech concepts but also developing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities." β Principal Elson
Her classroom reflects her passionβitβs fully Harry Potter-themed, where students are sorted into houses and earn free time for achieving their goals. She loves watching her students grow and celebrating their successes.
Now, as she works toward becoming a teacher, we couldnβt be more excited for her future. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, playing video games, and spending time with her boyfriend and family. Thank you, Ms. Jones, for all that you do! We are lucky to have you and canβt wait to see you shine as a teacher! ππ

Our sixth-grade students at Town and Country recently took on the challenge of building roller coasters to explore kinetic and potential energy in action. They started by constructing tracks using materials like cardboard, foam tubing, or paper, ensuring their designs included hills, loops, and turns. At the highest points, the roller coaster cars (often marbles or small balls) had maximum potential energy. As they rolled down, that energy transformed into kinetic energy, making them speed up. Students observed how energy changed throughout the ride, noticing factors like friction and gravity affecting motion. This hands-on project helped them understand real-world physics in a fun and engaging way!

Mr. Malik at Town and Country greeted our students today by playing guitar and singing Irish songs, specifically "In Dublin's Fair City" and "Leave Her Johnny," to serenade the hallways.
Ah, pesky leprechauns! Always sneaking around, causing mischief, and stealing all the gold. They're tricky little creatures known for hiding treasure and playing pranks. Maybe Mr. Malik's Irish songs will help keep those sneaky leprechauns at bay while he serenades the hallways!
