✨ Student Voices Making an Impact! ✨

During a recent visit to Sierra Vista, Governor Katie Hobbs had the opportunity to meet with the Cochise County Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council β€” a dynamic group of student leaders representing schools across the county.

We are especially proud that SIX SVUSD students serve on this council:
🍎 Trevor F. from Town & Country Elementary
πŸ“˜ Sadie M. from JCMS
πŸŽ“ Mirabella C., Greta S., Jason Y., and Veronica J. from Buena

A special congratulations to Veronica J., who serves as the Council’s President, and Jason Y., who serves as Vice President! πŸ‘

Students shared what it’s like to attend school in Cochise County and discussed their ideas and vision for the future with Governor Hobbs. Their thoughtful insights, leadership, and commitment to improving their schools and communities truly represent the best of SVUSD.

We are incredibly proud of these students for stepping up, speaking out, and helping shape the future. πŸ’™

Our 4th grade students are bringing math to life through Building Thinking Classrooms! 🧠✨

Students worked in collaborative groups to tackle the β€œFrog Jump Challenge,” using whiteboards, discussion, and problem-solving strategies to determine the total distance of each jump. The energy, teamwork, and perseverance on display were incredible!

By thinking out loud, testing ideas, and learning from one another, our Roadrunners are strengthening both their math skills and their confidence as learners. We are so proud of the way our students are embracing productive struggle and building deeper understanding every day. πŸ’›

Our readers and writers were hard at work demonstrating their understanding through visual analysis projects! πŸ“šβœ¨

Students chose a graphic to show their understanding of a chapter and used colors, illustrations, and annotations to represent mood, themes, ideas, and plot elements from the text. They supported their thinking with strong textual evidence and shared how their visuals connected to the story.

We loved seeing students think deeply, make meaning, and bring literature to life through creativity and analysis. Incredible work by our learners! πŸ’¬πŸŽ¨

Our 3rd graders brought history to life through their Native American Tribe Diorama Presentations!

Students presented their handcrafted dioramas and explained the key elements of their projects. Each learner delivered a 2–3-minute presentation, teaching others about the tribe they researched and the traditions, environment, and daily life depicted in their display.

We are so proud of the creativity, research, and presentation skills our students demonstrated. Learning truly came alive as students created, spoke, and shared their knowledge with others! 🌟

First graders at Town & Country recently had the chance to work with partners to conduct a science experiment on friction. Students were asked the following question: What materials create the most heat when exposed to friction? Many materials were laid out for the partners to look at and make their predictions. Then they got to test their theories by rubbing the materials and judging the amount of heat created.

β€œI can build a structure using natural materials like the Native Americans. I can test and improve my design!”

Through hands-on exploration, students investigated how Indigenous peoples used natural resources to create shelters and tools, then designed, tested, and refined their own structures. Learning came alive through creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving!

Town & Country Elementary and JCMS are currently experiencing an outage affecting both our phone and internet systems. While these services are down, staff are still on site and school is continuing as normal.

If you need to reach the school during this time, please come directly to the front office. We will let families know as soon as service has been restored.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Dear SVUSD Families,

We are excited to invite you to Talk with Terri, a special community listening event with Superintendent Terri Romo.

Thursday, January 29
5:00–6:00 PM
Rothery Education Conference Room

This event is not a presentation or formal meetingβ€”it is a listening tour designed specifically for Superintendent Romo to hear directly from our families. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to share their questions, concerns, experiences, and ideas as we work together to support students and strengthen our schools.

Superintendent Romo’s priority is to listen, learn, and better understand what matters most to you. Your voice is important, and your feedback will help inform the future of Sierra Vista Unified School District.

Everyone is welcome, and we encourage all families to attend and take part in this open, welcoming conversation about our schools, our community, and our future.

We hope you will join us for this important opportunity to be heard.
