The Sierra Vista Unified School District Governing Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Terri Romo as Interim Superintendent for the 2025–2026 school year, effective July 1, 2025. Mrs. Romo brings more than three decades of dedicated service to SVUSD, having served as a student, teacher, principal, and most recently, Assistant Superintendent. A proud product of SVUSD schools, Mrs. Romo is deeply invested in the success of the district and the community it serves. “While I never envisioned myself pursuing the superintendency, I feel called to offer my leadership during this important transition,” Romo shared. “Sierra Vista is my home. I am a proud product of this district, and now I have the privilege of raising my children in the same community and schools that helped shape me.” Throughout her career, Romo has demonstrated a deep commitment to doing what is best for children. Her work has included extensive grant writing, securing millions of dollars in additional funding to support students and staff, and fostering a culture of integrity, transparency, and collaboration. The Governing Board selected Mrs. Romo to serve as a stabilizing force during the district’s transition, as the search continues for a permanent superintendent. "Mrs. Romo’s experience, compassionate leadership, and unwavering dedication to SVUSD make her the ideal person to guide our district through the year ahead,” said Governing Board President Donald Lee. “She understands our schools, our students, and the unique needs of our community.” Terri Romo will succeed Dr. Eric Holmes, who has served as Superintendent since 2020. The Governing Board extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Holmes for his five years of service, leadership, and commitment to students, staff, and families. As the district prepares for a year of significant change—including the launch of the middle school academy concept and the closure of two school campuses in the 26-27 school year—Mrs. Romo stands ready to lead with empathy and decisiveness. “SVUSD is my home,” Romo stated. “I understand the pride each school holds and the deep impact this next phase will have on our community. I am honored to serve as a bridge during this transition, and I remain committed to strong, compassionate leadership.” Mrs. Romo holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and a Master’s in Education from Northern Arizona University. She is certified in teaching, administration, and the superintendency. ✨ 6th Grade Shark Tank: Innovation in Action! ✨ Our amazing 6th grade students recently stepped into the world of entrepreneurship with their very own Shark Tank project! Each team was challenged to invent or innovate a product, then take it through the entire business process—from designing and advertising, to marketing and finally pitching their ideas to potential investors. Students showcased impressive creativity, collaboration, and communication skills as they brought their business ideas to life. From catchy slogans to clever marketing strategies, their work reflected both imagination and real-world thinking. 👏 We’re so proud of these future innovators and leaders. 💧🌍 Our second-grade Roadrunners took part in a powerful Water Wise activity focused on global water awareness! To help students understand what nearly 2 billion people around the world experience daily, they participated in an outdoor water-hauling challenge. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ Along a safe, straight 50-yard path, students worked in teams to carry 2-gallon containers of water — gaining insight into the challenges of water access and the importance of teamwork. 🤝💦 This hands-on experience was a meaningful and memorable way to connect classroom learning with real-world issues. 💙 #WaterWise #GlobalAwareness #RoadrunnerPride #LearningByDoing #SafeRespectfulResponsible #HandsOnLearning #TeamworkMatters #WaterIsLife #EmpoweringYou 💧🌎👣

🍕👩‍🍳 Roadrunners who earned top PBIS recognition in their grade level were treated to an exciting Roving Chef experience! As a reward for their positive behavior, these standout students became chefs for the day — creating their own personal pizzas with a variety of tasty toppings and making adorable (and delicious!) strawberry mice. Thank you to our SFE culinary team for making this experience possible. 🐭🍓 This hands-on culinary celebration was a fun and memorable way to reinforce what it means to be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. 🐷🎉 Our Roadrunner Title I students had a blast celebrating Pig Day! From lively, dramatic readings of Mo Willems’ Happy Pig Day! and I Really Like Slop!, to creating adorable pig masks, whipping up their own “pig slop,” and solving riddles in a Pig Escape Room — the day was full of fun and learning! 🏃‍♂️🏅 Our elementary students from Bella Vista, Huachuca Mountain, Town and Country, Pueblo Del Sol, and Village Meadows came together at Buena High School for their first annual Track Meet—and it was a total blast! 💥 Six events filled the day with energy and excitement: • 100 Meter Dash • 400 Meter Dash • Mile Run (4 laps) • 4 x 100 Meter Relay • Long Jump • Softball Throw 👟 Each school sent 30 student-athletes—5 boys and 5 girls from grades 4–6—who competed in 1 or 2 events each. 🏅 Ribbons were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of each event! 🙌 A huge thank you to the PE teachers from the five elementary schools for organizing this incredible event, and to the Buena cross country and track athletes for helping run it smoothly! It was an amazing day of sportsmanship, school spirit, and fun.
