PDS 3rd graders went to the MWR Arts and Craft Studio and personalized mugs for Mother’s Day presents. Supplied with paintbrushes, paint, and a mug the Dust Devils got creative. The students got to work and created custom creations for their moms. The art projects will be clear-coated and set in a kiln by MWR. Once the mugs are finished they are delivered to the students' classrooms and go home for Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day to all moms in our district!

PDS Kindergarten Farmers Market. PDS’s three kindergarten classes hosted their annual Farmers Market on May 3rd. The little chefs prepared all fresh foods over the last few days and were proudly selling everything for a good cause. There was fresh salsa and chips, mini pizzas, trail mix, fruit skewers, and popcorn balls. Everything was washed down with homemade raspberry lemonade, Horchata and juice. The whole idea is based on the concept of the farm To table. Students learn the process of where food comes from, beginning from how it starts as a seed, how that seed produces the food we buy and eat, how it grows, how it is harvested and taken back to the factories and then marketed out to the stores. We used the science standards of the life cycle of a seed, as well as the Wonders book β€œBread Comes To Life” This story incorporates the entire process of how food began as a seed and then was made into different things we eat today. The families enjoyed their treats from the chefs and then took advantage to pick up some books at the book fair which was open. All proceeds from the Kinder Farmer’s Market will support St. Vincent de Paul.

JCMS 6th Grade Family Night. Last night JCMS opened its doors for families to stroll the campus, familiarize themselves with locations and ask questions. The Coyote Band welcomed the families outside on their way to the library along with PTSO Volunteers. After a short introduction by Principal Wright the visitors got to explore on their own, and if there were any questions the student council was around to answer them. Thank you team Coyote for welcoming everyone!

6th Graders are getting a tour of JCMS. All 6th grade students in our district took a field trip to JCMS this week to get first hand experience of the middle school. After a warm welcome by the Coyote Band and a short play performed by the theater class, the students were split up into smaller groups. Under the guidance of JCMS student council, the 6th graders toured the campus and got some insider tips from the 8th graders. Questions were answered and 6th graders were able to witness a passing period between classes. This is one of the biggest changes students experience when moving on to middle school, and for some can be a little scary. Being able to watch for themselves can help ease that fear. On May 4th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, JCMS is hosting a 6th Grade Family Night. The evening gives families a chance to tour the campus together. Thank you to everyone supporting these events!

Bisbee Science Lab visits PDS - On April 25th and 26th, the Bisbee Science Lab was onsite at the PDS playground. On colorful tablecloths under the ramadas, five stations were set up. The students could experience hands-on examples in different areas like pollination, biodiversity, protecting and promoting insects, and decomposition. Students were collecting insects from the lawn, digging and looking at dirt through microscopes, learning about life cycles and different insects, and even had the chance to hold some of the insect visitors. One station turned the students into pollinators and let them experience the work through the eyes of a pollinator using special glasses. A wonderful encounter with nature and a great STEAM learning experience! Thank you Bisbee Science Lab!
