Mr. Malik at Town and Country greeted our students today by playing guitar and singing Irish songs, specifically "In Dublin's Fair City" and "Leave Her Johnny," to serenade the hallways.
Ah, pesky leprechauns! Always sneaking around, causing mischief, and stealing all the gold. They're tricky little creatures known for hiding treasure and playing pranks. Maybe Mr. Malik's Irish songs will help keep those sneaky leprechauns at bay while he serenades the hallways!

β‘οΈποΈPercy Jackson has taken over Town & Country! π²
Sixth-grade students designed Percy Jackson-themed board games before spring break to explore key elements of the book, including setting, plot, theme, and character traits. Players navigated through mythological challenges based on Camp Half-Blood, Olympus, and the Underworld, encountering obstacles that mirrored the novelβs heroic journey. The games featured quests and battles inspired by Percyβs adventures, requiring players to use strategy and Greek mythology knowledge. Themes like friendship, bravery, and destiny were woven into the gameplay, while characters like Percy, Annabeth, and Grover had unique abilities reflecting their strengths. This creative project brought Rick Riordanβs world to life in a fun and interactive way! Way to go, 6th graders! πβ¨

π Teacher Feature: Mrs. Jurik β A Kindergarten Legend! π
For 18 years, Mrs. Jurik has been a guiding light in the kindergarten classrooms of Village Meadowsβhelping little learners take their first big leap into education! π«β¨
To her, kindergarten is a world of discovery, and she loves watching her students grow from playful preschoolers into confident first graders. Her classroom, affectionately called the Puppy Pack, is a warm and nurturing space where every child feels valued and supportedβa perfect fit within the Wolf Pack family. πΎπ
Mrs. Jurik embraces hands-on learning and small-group centers, always looking for new ways to spark curiosity and excitement in her students. She credits much of her success to her incredible paraprofessional, Mrs. Urbina, who works closely alongside her. ππ¨π
Outside the classroom, sheβs a devoted grandmother, spending time at the Reid Park Zoo and Childrenβs Museum with her granddaughter. She enjoys knitting, reading, traveling, and family timeβand this year, sheβs preparing for an exciting new adventure: retirement! πβοΈ
Principal Mrs. Wambach describes her perfectly:
"Mrs. Jurik is more than a teacherβsheβs an icon, a leader, and a transformative force in the lives of young minds. She has become an integral part of Village Meadows, leaving a lasting impact on every student lucky enough to be in her 'Puppy Pack!'"
Though sheβll be stepping away from the classroom, her legacy will live on in the hearts of the many students, families, and colleagues she has touched. Thank you, Mrs. Jurik, for your years of dedication, love, and inspiration! ππΊ

π Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Shauna Young, Village Meadows PE Teacher! π
We are so lucky to have incredible educators at Village Meadows, and today weβre shining the spotlight on Mrs. Young, our amazing Physical Education teacher! ππΊ
Mrs. Young is in her sixth year of teaching but her first year as a PE teacherβa role she has absolutely fallen in love with! Previously, she taught third, and fifth grade before taking a year off to be with her newborn baby daughter. Now, in PE, she gets to see every student at every grade level, watching them grow and helping them develop skills in fun and exciting ways!
Her PE lessons are far more than just exerciseβshe brings her classroom experience into the gym by integrating math and problem-solving into her activities! πββοΈπ² For example:
Younger students run between tables, finding matching cards to practice recognition skills.
Older students roll dice and use addition or multiplication to determine their reps in an exercise.
Scooter stations incorporate puzzles to keep kids thinking while they move!
Outside of school, Mrs. Young is a busy mom to a 17-month-old and a blended family of kids aged 10, 11, 13, and 15. She loves hiking, movies, and spending time with her husband and family. A 2004 Buena graduate, Mrs. Young pursued her passion for education by earning her teaching degree and completing her student teaching at Bella Vistaβthe very same school she attended as an elementary student. She then achieved an incredible milestone, earning her masterβs degree in just 10 months while navigating her first year of teaching at Village Meadows! πβ¨
Village Meadows students are so lucky to have 50 minutes of PE twice a week with such a dedicated and passionate teacher. She not only helps them grow physically but also mentally, making PE a place where learning and movement come together!
Thank you, Mrs. Young, for all you do! ππ Letβs give her a big Wolfpack cheer in the comments! πΊπ #VillageMeadowsPride #PEwithMrsYoung #WolfpackStrong

π Staff Highlight: Ms. Borquez β Elementary Literacy Interventionist π
Meet Ms. Borquez, an incredible Elementary Literacy Interventionist at Village Meadows since April 2024! She dedicates her days to supporting both third-grade classrooms, providing small-group lessons designed to strengthen essential reading skills. Right now, sheβs helping students prepare for the state test and monitoring their progress to ensure every child stays on track.
Ms. Borquez has a deep passion for education and watching her students grow. She loves seeing their excitement as they overcome challenges and celebrate successes. She truly values being part of the third-grade team and enjoys collaborating with her second-grade counterpart. Mrs. Gorder, a third-grade teacher, describes her as βfantasticβI donβt have to tell her what to do; sheβs so independent!β
Outside of school, Ms. Borquez is a proud mother of four and enjoys spending time with her family. Married to a Sierra Vista native, she came here through the military with her parents and later graduated from Buena. She holds an associate degree in Elementary Education and loves camping, travelingβespecially to the beach where she likes to paddleboard β and visiting National Parks with her family.
When choosing Village Meadows, Ms. Borquez was drawn to its strong leadership, clear expectations, and uplifting staff under Mrs. Wambach. She thrives in an environment where she can support students, collaborate with teachers, and make a meaningful impact.
So, what exactly does a Literacy Interventionist do? They work with K-3 students in small-group intensive instruction, helping them meet grade-level literacy standards. In SVUSD, these groups are led by highly trained paraprofessionals at all elementary schools, ensuring every child gets the support they need to succeed!
Thank you, Ms. Borquez, for your dedication, passion, and hard work in making a difference at Village Meadows! ππΊ #WolfPackPride #LiteracyMatters #ThankYouMsBorquez #EmpoweringYou #SVUSDProudARatedDistrict
