🏃‍♂️🩺 Train Like a Pro: Explore Sports Medicine at Buena High School! 🩺🏃‍♀️
Buena High School’s Sports Medicine Career and Technical Education (CTE) program introduces students to the science of movement, injury prevention, and athletic performance through hands-on, real-world learning.

In Sports Medicine I, students explore exercise science, physical therapy, and the physiology of sports and fitness. Students actively participate in lab experiences while learning foundational skills in athletic health and safety, with opportunities to earn CPR and First Aid certification. Students may also participate in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) competitions.

In Sports Medicine II, students dive deeper into human anatomy and physiology while studying athletic training, injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Lab-based learning continues with a focus on real-world application and advanced sports medicine concepts.
Students can also gain leadership and technical experience through additional opportunities:

🩺 Sports Medicine Lab Assistant – Support classroom and lab activities, assist with equipment setup and maintenance, inventory supplies, troubleshoot equipment, and help enhance instructional experiences while building leadership skills.

🏃 Sports Medicine Internship – Apply learned skills in real-world settings by assisting with lab operations, supporting instructors and students, and gaining hands-on experience under teacher supervision. May include time commitments outside the school day.

✨ This program prepares students for careers in athletic training, physical therapy, exercise science, sports performance, and other healthcare-related fields through hands-on experience and professional skill development.

In **Law & Public Safety I**, students explore the American criminal justice system, including law enforcement, courts, corrections, crime and punishment, and the development of laws in the United States.

In **Law & Public Safety II**, students build advanced skills in law, public safety, and security while working with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement agencies. Students gain insight into crime prevention, emergency response, and public safety careers.

Students may also have opportunities to earn valuable certifications, including:

The U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) is one of the largest character development and citizenship programs for young people in the world. At Buena High School, JROTC helps students develop leadership skills, self-confidence, teamwork, personal responsibility, and a commitment to serving their community.

Guided by its mission, **"To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens,"** JROTC is a four-year program that prepares students for success in school, careers, and life.

📚 **Year 1 (LET 1) – The Emerging Leader**
Students build a strong foundation through lessons in leadership, personal growth, teamwork, decision-making, health and fitness, and service learning.

📚 **Year 2 (LET 2) – The Developing Leader**
Students expand their leadership skills while learning first aid, citizenship, government, teamwork, and community service.

📚 **Year 3 (LET 3) – The Supervising Leader**
Cadets strengthen their ability to lead others through advanced leadership training, decision-making, citizenship, and service-learning opportunities.

By **Film/TV Production III**, students become part of **Buena Media Productions**, a student-run production company that creates videos and media projects for real clients both inside and outside the school. From concept to final edit, students manage every step of the production process.

Students can also serve as **Film/TV Production Lab Assistants**, helping manage equipment, support productions, troubleshoot technology, and develop leadership skills.

Have a passion for cooking? Buena High School's Culinary Arts Career and Technical Education (CTE) program gives students the opportunity to develop real-world culinary skills in a professional setting.

Students begin with **Fundamentals of Cooking**, where they learn kitchen safety and sanitation, culinary terminology, measuring techniques, knife skills, food preparation methods, and how to safely use commercial kitchen equipment. Through hands-on labs, students prepare a variety of foods while building teamwork, time management, and presentation skills.

Ready for the next level? In the **Chefs** course, students expand their culinary knowledge through large-scale food production, menu planning, inventory management, catering operations, and culinary competitions. Students gain practical service experience by helping operate Buena's **Four Seasons Catering** program and participating in community events, field trips, and leadership opportunities through **FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America)**.

🔧🚗 Turn Your Passion for Cars into a Career at Buena High School! 🚗🔧

Whether you're interested in maintaining vehicles, diagnosing complex automotive issues, or restoring and refinishing vehicles, Buena High School's Automotive and Collision Repair programs provide hands-on learning and real-world experience.

Students can start with Auto 1, where they learn vehicle safety, tool use, engine theory, electrical systems, and basic maintenance. As they advance through Auto 2 and Auto 3, they'll gain in-depth training in brakes, steering and suspension, transmissions, air conditioning systems, engine diagnostics, and more.

For students interested in vehicle restoration and repair, our Collision/Paint & Auto Body Repair pathway teaches everything from damage analysis and panel repair to welding, painting, refinishing, and industry-standard collision repair techniques. Advanced students can even participate in career internships and prepare for ASE and I-CAR certifications.

💡 Most advanced courses emphasize hands-on learning, helping students develop the skills needed to enter the workforce immediately after graduation or continue their education at a technical school.

Last week, staff from across the district came together at Rothery Education Center for our annual Summer Institute — a week-long professional development event led by our incredible Curriculum Department. 🚧 TRAFFIC NOTICE:
Charleston Road will be closed from Colombo Ave to Moson Rd from 4:30–10:00 PM for Buena’s graduation ceremony. Please plan ahead and drive carefully as #SVPolice will be directing traffic and setting up cones and signage.

🚗 PARKING INFO:
Parking at Buena High School is by parking pass only. Each graduate receives 2 parking passes. Only vehicles displaying STAFF, VIP, or PROJECT GRADUATION passes may enter from Colombo Ave.

🎓GRADUATE passes must approach from Giulio Cesare Ave via Hwy 90, where you will be diverted eastbound onto Charleston Rd to Fighting Colt Dr for access to the student lot (includes handicap parking). Each graduate will receive 2 GRADUATE parking passes for them and their families.

🚍 FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE:
All other attendees are encouraged to use our FREE shuttle from the Mall at Sierra Vista (northeast corner between Dillard’s and Applebee’s).
Shuttle Start Time: 5:30 PM
Runs every 15–20 minutes until 7:00 PM
Return service begins immediately after the ceremony, with the last shuttle leaving one hour post-ceremony.

We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 and look forward to honoring our graduates at this year’s commencement ceremony.

## Graduation Day Information

* Graduates should arrive at **5:00 PM** and enter Buena High School through the east end doors by the student parking lot.
* Stadium gates will open to the public at **6:00 PM**.

### Stadium Expectations & Safety

When entering the stadium, please be mindful of what you are bringing.

* All bags will be searched upon entry.
* To help expedite entry, clear bags are encouraged.
* Noisemakers, air horns, and cowbells are not permitted during the ceremony.
* Weapons, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, e-cigarettes, and vape products are prohibited on school campuses and in the stadium.
* Only service animals are permitted.
* Guests may bring empty refillable water bottles or unopened plastic water bottles.
* Outside food and drinks are not permitted. Concessions will be available.

Please remember that graduation is a special moment for every graduate and family. We ask all attendees to help create a respectful and celebratory environment for everyone.

### Shuttle Information

Shuttles will run from **Sierra Vista Mall to Buena High School beginning at 5:30 PM**. Families are strongly encouraged to use the shuttle service.

* Golf carts will be available to assist guests traveling from the shuttle drop-off area to the stadium.
